Key Flavour Ingredients — Ethyl Maltol, Vanillin, Ethyl Vanillin, Maltol

Many of the most commercially successful flavour profiles are built on a small number of high-impact flavouring compounds. EC Aroma formulates with all of the core industry ingredients:

• Ethyl maltol (CAS 4940-11-8) — sweet, cotton-candy, fruity base note that elevates nearly every flavour category, from confectionery to beverages.
• Vanillin (CAS 121-33-5) — principal flavour compound of vanilla; widely used in dessert, bakery and custard profiles. Natural-origin and synthetic forms available.
• Ethyl vanillin (CAS 121-32-4) — approximately 3–4x more potent than vanillin; richer vanilla and cream note for premium custard and dessert concentrates.
• Maltol (CAS 118-71-8) — sweet, caramel-like enhancer used in fruit and confectionery profiles to lift sweetness perception without additional sweetener loading.

All four compounds are approved under EC1334/2008 and assessed safe by EFSA and JECFA.

Sweeteners — Sucralose, Stevia, Neotame, Advantame

• Sucralose — approximately 600x sweeter than sucrose; widely used across candy, dessert and fruit profiles.
• Stevia (steviol glycosides) — natural-origin, plant-derived sweetener for clean-label ranges.
• Neotame — ultra-high-intensity (~8,000x sucrose) for applications requiring minimal additive levels.
• Advantame — approximately 20,000x sweeter than sucrose; used where extremely low dosing is required to maintain base stability.
• Unsweetened versions — available for all profiles for customers who add sweeteners independently.

Cooling Agents — WS-3, WS-23, WS-5, Menthol

Cooling agents are core tools in confectionery, chewing gum, beverage, oral care and personal care flavouring. EC Aroma works with the full range:

• WS-3 (N-Ethyl-p-menthane-3-carboxamide) — mellow, persistent cooling with low menthol character.
• WS-23 (2-Isopropyl-N,2,3-trimethylbutyramide) — sharp, clean cooling without the menthol flavour note; widely used in fruit-ice and candy-ice profiles.
• WS-5 (N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-p-menthane-3-carboxamide) — intense, long-lasting cooling, often combined with WS-3 or WS-23.
• Natural menthol (L-menthol) — classic cooling derived from peppermint oil, used in mint and fresh profiles.

Carrier Systems — PG, MPG, VG, Water-Soluble & Oil-Based

EC Aroma concentrates are formulated for propylene glycol (PG / MPG) carrier systems (CAS 57-55-6), vegetable glycerine (VG) compatible systems, water-soluble formats for beverage and functional drink applications, and oil-based systems for bakery, confectionery and fat-phase products. Dosage is product-specific. It depends on the flavour profile, the base matrix, the process and the intensity you are targeting — and every manufacturer arrives at its own rate for its own formulation. For that reason we do not publish fixed percentages: tell us your application and we will recommend a starting rate for your product, supply the profile-specific technical data sheet, and support you through bench trials before production.

• Beverages & functional drinks — water-soluble systems; carbonated and RTD formats behave differently from cordials and syrups
• Confectionery & candy — normally added after the cook stage, where heat-sensitive top notes matter
• Sports nutrition powders — high-protein matrices generally need more flavour plus masking support
• Bakery — heat-stable oil-based systems for baked-through applications
• Dairy & desserts — fat content carries flavour efficiently, so these usually start lower
• Fragrance applications — load varies by format (candles, reed diffusers, fine fragrance) and must follow IFRA category guidance

Storage: store concentrates sealed in original packaging, away from direct light, at 5–20°C. Typical shelf life is 12–24 months unopened depending on profile — see the CoA for the batch-specific best-before date. Citrus and other terpene-rich profiles are the most oxygen-sensitive; keep containers tightly closed and use opened stock promptly.
